Neil Robertson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities at the University of King’s College, serving as Director of the Foundation Year Program. He holds a BA from the University of King’s College (1985), MA in Classics from Dalhousie University, and PhD in Social and Political Science from the University of Cambridge (1995). Robertson previously directed the Foundation Year and Early Modern Studies programs, and served as Dean of Residence (1989-1990) and Chair of Faculty. His research focuses on contemporary and early modern political thought, particularly Leo Strauss’s neoconservatism, Descartes’s impact on modernity, and the intellectual history of early modern Europe. He teaches courses on critiques of modernity and ancient/modern philosophical dialectics, including CTMP4415.03 and CTMP3103.03.
Robertson’s scholarship engages with figures like George Grant, Montesquieu, and Rousseau, analyzing themes of secularism, inequality, and the philosophical foundations of modern political thought. His publications explore intersections between political theory, theology, and cultural critique, with forthcoming work on modern secularity and Rousseau’s discourse on inequality.
