Professor Neil Rankin is a distinguished academic in the Department of Economics at the University of York. He holds a MA and DPhil from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on macroeconomic and monetary theory, particularly dynamic general equilibrium models with imperfect competition, fiscal policy analysis, and sustainability of government debt in open economies. He has supervised over 20 PhD students and teaches advanced macroeconomics at both MSc and PhD levels.
His work explores topics such as fiscal deficits under currency unions, optimal monetary policy under non-lump-sum taxation, and the effects of monetary rules on output persistence. Key contributions include analyses of debt sustainability in perpetual youth and overlapping generations models. Administrative roles include Chair of the PG Exceptional Circumstances Committee.
