Neil Lyall is Professor of Mathematics and Associate Dean in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia, where he maintains an active research program and academic leadership role.
Education:
- B.S. in Mathematics, University of Edinburgh
- M.A. in Mathematics, University of Wisconsin at Madison
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, University of Wisconsin at Madison
Research Interests: His work centers on Analysis, Number Theory and Arithmetic Geometry, and Additive Combinatorics, with significant contributions to maximal averaging operators and finite point configurations in Euclidean spaces. His interdisciplinary approach bridges harmonic analysis, combinatorial number theory, and geometric measure theory, yielding novel insights into discrete geometric structures.
Scientific Awards:
- Excellence in Diversity Advocacy Award (2023)
- General Sandy Beaver University Excellence in Teaching Award (2012)
Grants and Advising: He currently leads a Simons Foundation grant (2023-2028, $42,000) on maximal averaging operators, supported by multiple NSF awards including Research Grant 1702411 (2017-2021, $183,305) and Conference Grants 1804049 (2018) and 1501458 (2015). His mentoring includes graduate student Akash Singha Roy, and he has supervised numerous doctoral candidates through the Mathematics Department's DRP program.
