Dr. Neil J. Wells is a Senior Experimental Officer in NMR Spectroscopy and manages the Chemistry NMR Spectroscopy facility at the University of Southampton. He holds a BSc, MRes, and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Southampton, with his doctoral work focused on combinatorial chemistry and HR-MAS NMR techniques. His research emphasizes applied NMR spectroscopy for structural elucidation, particularly in organic, medicinal, and materials chemistry. He teaches NMR spectroscopy and analytical methodologies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Research interests include NMR-based structural analysis of fluorinated compounds, drug design, and liquid crystal physics. Notable achievements include the Luckhurst-Samulski Prize 2016. He currently supervises PhD student Thamer Fayih B Alotaibi. His work contributes to interdisciplinary projects, such as drug inhibitor studies and nanostructure formation via self-assembly mechanisms.
