معرفی
Dr. Neil Hutchinson is an Associate Professor in Environmental Science at the Singapore Campus of James Cook University. He holds memberships in the Tropical Futures Institute (TFI) and the Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture (CSTFA). His research focuses on coastal marine ecosystems, particularly interactions between species in intertidal zones and shallow coastal habitats, with an emphasis on mesopredators like bamboo sharks. He advocates for conservation biology and fisheries management research that directly engages the public as citizen scientists.
Education:
- PhD in Marine Ecology, University of Hong Kong (1996–2000)
- BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology, University of Sunderland (UK, 1992–1995)
Research Interests:
His work examines fish utilization of mangroves, seagrass beds, and other coastal habitats. Current projects include ecology studies on mesopredators (e.g., bamboo sharks) and conservation of endangered species like wedgefishes. He collaborates on initiatives such as shark and ray capacity-building workshops in Southeast Asia and studies on seafood market trends.
Teaching:
Lecturer for modules such as Fundamentals of Ecology, Marine Conservation Biology, and Tropical Marine Ecology and Coastal Impacts. Active in curriculum development, including course-building for MB5001.
Awards:
- Research Excellence - Team Award (JCU Singapore, 2021)
- 3MT Winner (Academic/Research Staff Category, JCU Singapore, 2020)
- Special Commendation Award for PhD Supervision (2024)
Grants & Activities:
Lead researcher on funded projects like the Asian shark and ray capacity building workshops (2024–2026) and Life history of the bottlenose wedgefish (2020–2023). Mentor to PhD candidates focusing on marine catfish ecology and shark fisheries management.
Labs & Teams:
Contributes to interdisciplinary teams at TFI and CSTFA, focusing on sustainable fisheries and tropical marine conservation.
