Neil Christie is a Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Leicester, where he has been a faculty member since 1992. His academic journey includes a BA and PhD from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, followed by postdoctoral roles at the British School at Rome and the University of Oxford. He holds administrative roles such as former Postgraduate (Research) Tutor in the School of Archaeology & Ancient History and PGR Director for the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. He co-directs the Leicester Medieval Research Centre and serves as Reviews Editor for Medieval Archaeology and the Medieval Settlement Research Group journals. His external roles include peer review for the European Science Foundation, PRIN (Italy), and major academic publishers like Cambridge University Press and Brill. He was recognized as a University Distinguished Teaching Fellow in 2019 for contributions to postgraduate research education. His work focuses on medieval archaeological landscapes, settlement patterns, and material culture analysis.
Key external collaborations include his role as Site Director for the Midlands4Cities AHRC doctoral partnership and membership in the Società degli Archeologi Medievisti Italiani. Christie’s editorial contributions extend to the Equinox series The Archaeology of Medieval Europe. His expertise bridges field archaeology, historical documentation, and interdisciplinary medieval studies.
