معرفی
Neil Alford is a Professor of Materials at the Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering, Imperial College London. His research focuses on advanced materials for quantum technologies, particularly room-temperature MASERs, microwave dielectrics, and functional ceramics. He holds affiliations with the Institute for Molecular Science and Engineering, Maser Research Group, Quantum Engineering, Science and Technology, and Space Lab. Alford has served as Head of Department of Materials, Vice Dean for Research, and Associate Provost at Imperial. He was awarded an MBE in 2013 and elected to the Royal Society in 2025.
Education: BSc from St Andrews University, PhD in fracture mechanics of cement mortars from Queen Mary College. His career includes postdoctoral work at Oxford University and roles at ICI Corporate Laboratory and London South Bank University.
Research interests include MASER technology, plasmonics, electrocaloric materials, and thin film engineering. His work on low-loss microwave dielectrics enabled the first room-temperature MASER. Recent articles highlight advancements in portable MASER devices, graphene-based resonators, and tunable optical materials.
Scientific Awards: MBE (2013), Royal Society Fellowship (2025). His contributions bridge academia and industry, with technologies applied in cellular communications and quantum computing.
