Neferti X. M. Tadiar is a Professor and Chair of Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University. She joined Barnard in 2006 after teaching at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her work bridges critical theory, postcolonial studies, and Philippine cultural analysis.
Her academic focus includes transnational feminisms, Marxist theory, and the intersections of gender, race, and globalization. She examines how cultural practices and social imagination shape power dynamics in global contexts, with a particular emphasis on the Philippines.
Key publications include *Things Fall Away: Philippine Historical Experience and the Makings of Globalization* (2009) and *Fantasy-Production* (2004), which won the Philippine National Book Award. She co-edits the journal *Social Text* and is developing new projects on aesthetic politics and postcolonial life under war.
Her research explores themes like nationalism, transnationalism, and the material consequences of cultural narratives in Asia Pacific contexts. She advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to understanding marginalized communities and global inequities.
