Neeraj Badjatia

Neeraj Badjatia is Professor and Executive Vice Chair of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, serving as Chief of Neurocritical Care for the Program in Trauma. He holds an M.D. from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and an M.S. in Biostatistics from Columbia University.

His research examines metabolic and inflammatory responses to acute brain injury, with particular focus on traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Current work develops machine learning approaches to prognostication while investigating targeted temperature management strategies using novel transnasal cooling devices.

Clinical trials led by Dr. Badjatia include INTREPID, evaluating fever prevention in vascular brain injury, and studies of corticosteroid therapy for refractory pain post-hemorrhage. His laboratory utilizes metabolomics to identify systemic metabolic alterations following neurological injury and develops protocols for managing autonomic dysfunction in neurocritical care.
