Neena Singh is Professor in both Pathology and Neurology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She holds an MD from Maulana Azad Medical College and PhD in Cell Biology from Case Western, with clinical training in Immunopathology at University Hospitals Cleveland.
Her laboratory investigates iron pathophysiology across neurological and ophthalmic disorders. Current research examines: iron cycling mechanisms in the eye, iron dysregulation in corneal infections/glaucoma/cataracts, and ocular models for studying Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and prion diseases. The eye serves as a critical model system for understanding brain iron homeostasis.
Key discoveries include prion protein's role in ocular iron transport (2018), α-synuclein disruption of retinal iron metabolism in Parkinson's (2017), and connections between prion proteins and glucose homeostasis (2018). Research integrates molecular biology with clinical ophthalmology and neurology.
