Neda Mohtashami is a Research Associate and Postdoctoral Researcher affiliated with the CERES Research Center (Center for Religious Studies) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. She is part of the Subproject A04 within the DFG CRC 1475 'Metaphors of Religion', focusing on the History of Western Asian Religions. Currently on parental leave, her research explores intersections between Iranian and heterogeneous traditions of knowledge, particularly in religious and cultural contexts.
Her academic journey includes a PhD in Religious Studies (2021–ongoing) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the University of Rome 'La Sapienza', supervised by Prof. Kianoosh Rezania and Prof. Chiara Barbati. Prior to this, she held a position as a Junior Research Fellow (2009–2020) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, investigating scribal habits in Central Asian manuscripts.
Her M.A. (2017–2019) from the University of Bologna focused on comparative lapidaries in Central Asia, while her B.A. (2014–2017) at the University of Pisa examined Hinduist iconography. Her research spans religious cosmologies, manuscript cultures, and interdisciplinary approaches to religious history.
She co-supervises PhD student Floriana Marra on the topic of Manichaean cosmology and collaborates with institutions like the Institute for Iranian Studies (Austrian Academy of Sciences). Her work bridges textual analysis, cultural history, and comparative religious studies.
