Kianoosh Rezania is a Professor of West Asian Religious History at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where he serves as Director of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg Dynamics of Religious History. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Old Iranian Studies (2008) from Georg-August University Göttingen, preceded by an M.A. in Iranian Studies (2002) and an M.Sc. in Computer Science (1998) from Sharif University of Technology.

His research focuses on Zoroastrianism, Old Iranian Studies, Iranian Religions, and History of Religions, with a particular emphasis on interreligious contacts between Islamic and Zoroastrian scholars in the 9th–10th centuries. He has led projects such as Zoroastrian Middle Persian: Digital Corpus and Dictionary (MPCD) and The Pahlavi-Literature in Its Context, exploring the genesis of Pahlavi literature through cross-cultural exchanges.
Recent publications include works on cosmological concepts, ritual practices, and interdisciplinary economic analysis of religious systems, reflecting his diverse scholarly engagement. He has also contributed to digital humanities initiatives and comparative studies of Iranian religious metaphors.
Scientific awards include a DAAD scholarship for his Ph.D. and a KHK Fellowship (2014–2016). He has coordinated the West Asian Religious History group and directed the Graduate School of Metaphor and Religion (GSMR) at CERES.
