Neal Schmitt serves as an Instructor and head of the Music Technology program in the Conservatory of Music at Capital University. He also directs the Music Technology Internship program, placing students across Ohio and the United States.
His educational qualifications include:
- Master of Business Administration from Capital University
- Master of Science in Marketing and Communication from Franklin University
- Bachelor of Science in Communication with emphasis in Audio Production from Ohio University
With nearly three decades in Columbus, Ohio's music industry, Schmitt's expertise spans Music Technology, Audio Engineering, and Entrepreneurship. His program emphasizes critical thinking through international study in Belfast, Berlin, and Copenhagen, plus domestic trips to Nashville, New York, and Chicago. He teaches studio production, web development, and live sound engineering using hands-on learning in the department's recording studios and technology spaces.
Schmitt previously co-founded Workbook Studio—a 3,200 sq. ft. recording facility featured in EQ, TapeOp, and Mix magazines—where he produced hundreds of songs and hosted industry events. His teaching philosophy encourages students to 'swing for the fences,' transforming successes and failures into foundational learning experiences.
