Nazli Hodaie

Prof. Dr. Nazli Hodaie is Professor of German with a focus on German literature and its didactics (specializing in 'Heterogeneity and Interculturality') at Pädagogische Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd since January 2016. She serves as the head of the Department of German with Speech Education since October 2023 and is the speaker of the Center for Migration and Integration Studies 'Migration – Society – School' (MiGS), which she co-founded in 2017.

Her academic journey includes:

• Promotion (PhD) in German Language and Literature Didactics from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in 2006
• DAAD scholarship for doctoral studies in 'Didactics of German Language and Literature' at LMU Munich (2002-2006)
• Studies in German Language and Literature at Shahid-Beheshti University and Didaktik of German Language and Literature at Tarbiat-Modarres University in Tehran/Iran (1992-2000)

Prof. Hodaie's research critically examines postmigrant literature didactics, literary multilingualism, and the representation of migration and flight in children's and young adult literature. Her work takes a subject-critical perspective on literature and literary didactics with a focus on migration and flight, alongside anti-racism and orientalism criticism, particularly examining Orientalist imagery in children's literature.

She is actively involved in several significant research initiatives:

• Co-leading the BMBF project 'Mit Postmigrantischer Literatur(-didaktik) zur Selbstermächtigung' (PoLiS) (2024-2027)
• Co-leading the interdisciplinary research college 'Heterogenität gestalten – starke Grundschulen entwickeln' (2019-2026)
• Establishing the Poetikdozentur 'Postmigrantische Poetiken' starting in the 2025/26 winter semester
• Founding the network 'Literarische Mehrsprachigkeit und ihre Didaktik' in September 2022
• Co-authoring the handbook 'Postmigration und Literatur' (planned 2027) with Prof. Dr. Michael Hofmann

Prof. Hodaie serves as an expert reviewer for:

• Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF/DLR)
• Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)
• The Stifterverband
• Multiple academic journals including Diskurs Kindheits- und Jugendforschung and Zeitschrift für Interkulturellen Fremdsprachenunterricht

Her leadership extends to directing the Center for Migration and Integration Studies (MiGS) at Pädagogische Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd, officially opened in November 2018 with funding from the Stifterverband. She also serves as speaker of the working group 'Postmigrantische Deutschdidaktik' in the Symposion Deutschdidaktik (SDD) since December 2023 and is a board member of the association 'Migrationspädagogische Zweitsprachdidaktik' e.V. since September 2021.
