Dr. Navjit K. Sanghera is an Associate Professor of Optometry and Ocular Disease Curriculum Coordinator at the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). She earned her OD from SUNY College of Optometry (2006) and completed a residency in Primary Care/Ocular Disease at ICO (2007). She served at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (2006–2011) before joining ICO's full-time faculty in 2011. Her special interests include Traumatic Brain Injury, Primary Eye Care, and Ocular Disease Education. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and an active member of the American Optometric Association and Illinois Optometric Association.
Her research focuses on tele-optometric examinations, military healthcare, and binocular vision. Notable works include studies on ocular health testing in telemedicine, military cultural competency training for optometrists, and visual dysfunction in blast-induced TBI. She has contributed to Optometric and Visual Performance journals and co-authored a textbook chapter on ocular trauma.
Dr. Sanghera’s clinical experience includes caring for veterans, active-duty military, and student populations. She actively participates in ICO’s clinics and laboratories, emphasizing hands-on training for future optometrists. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and innovative telemedicine approaches in optometry.
