Dr. Navid Freidoonimehr is a Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering and the Centre for Biomedical Technologies. Holding a PhD from the University of Adelaide, his work bridges biofluid mechanics, cardiovascular diagnostics, and energy-efficient fluid systems.
- Education: PhD (University of Adelaide)
- Professional Memberships: Australian Fluid Mechanics Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Engineers Australia, European Society of Biomechanics
His research focuses on coronary artery disease and microvascular dysfunction, combining experimental fluid mechanics with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze blood flow patterns, stent performance, and novel diagnostic indices. Notable projects include developing a CFD-based resistance index for microvascular spasm (2024-2025) and exploring flow pulsation energy savings in pipelines under his 2025 ARC DECRA grant.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in hemodynamic modeling, turbulent boundary layers, and biofluid-structure interactions. Awards include the Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship and Vanguard Grant. He actively supervises PhD students in collaboration with leading researchers like Professor Zhiyong Li.
