Naureen Durrani is a Lecturer in International Education and Development at the University of Sussex, affiliated with the Centre for International Education (CIE) in the Department of Education. She holds an MEd from the University of Peshawar (1995), an MSc in Social Research Methods in Education (2005), a DPhil in Education (2008), and a PGCert in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education (2015).
Research Interests: Naureen specializes in identity construction through education, focusing on intersections of gender, Islam, ethnicity, and youth in post-conflict and Muslim-majority contexts. Her work examines education policy, curriculum texts, and teacher practices in Pakistan, Senegal, Nigeria, and South Asia. She employs qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods to analyze education's role in social cohesion, citizenship, and peacebuilding.
Teaching: She leads modules on curriculum theory, gender equity, and international education in Sussex's MA in International Education and Development and BA Childhood and Youth Studies. Her pedagogy integrates cross-cultural perspectives on learning and assessment.

Doctoral Supervision: Naureen has supervised PhD students on topics including teacher motivation in Cambodia, adult literacy in Ghana, and mathematics education for social justice. Her research projects include ESRC/DFID-funded studies on teacher agency in peacebuilding and UNICEF-funded work on education in Pakistan and Nigeria.
