Nathaniel Thiem is Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research specializes in algebraic combinatorics and combinatorial representation theory, exploring connections between combinatorial structures and algebraic representations.
His work focuses on groups of Lie type (especially unipotent groups), Hecke algebras, diagram algebras, and supered representation theories. Recent research develops combinatorial frameworks for understanding representation theories through maximal Hopf theoretic structure.
Dr. Thiem co-organizes the Algebraic Lie Theory Seminar and mentors graduate students in algebra and combinatorics. His research has been supported by NSF and NSA grants, including projects on branching rules in superclass functions and primitive elements in Hopf monoids.
