Nathaniel Kelly is a Researcher at the University of Bath's Department of Mechanical Engineering and a member of the Centre for Bioengineering & Biomedical Technologies (CBio). He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath (2022), supervised by Prof. Fraser, Dr. Cookson, and Dr. Gill.
His research focuses on experimental and numerical analysis of non-Newtonian fluid dynamics in biological systems, with particular emphasis on biofluid flows and turbulence modelling. Key areas include shear-thinning blood analogues, secondary flow dynamics in rotating domains, and computational models for artificial heart devices.
Recent work includes a collaborative project (Isambard RAP, 2019-2020) investigating transitional blood flow over backward facing steps, contributing to sustainable healthcare innovations. His publications explore fluid-structure interaction simulations for artificial hearts and novel manufacturing techniques for polyurethane ventricles.
Kelly has contributed to datasets on cardiovascular MRI analysis and co-authored a doctoral thesis examining blood rheology's impact on transitional flow regimes. His research aligns with UN SDGs related to good health and sustainable industrial practices.
