Nathaniel J. Dominy serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at Dartmouth College, with additional appointments as Adjunct Professor of Biological Sciences and Professor in the Ecology, Evolution, Ecosystems and Society (EEES) Graduate Program.
His academic journey includes a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University (1998), a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong (2001), and postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago (2002-2004).
Dominy's research integrates tropical fieldwork with mechanical, molecular, and isotopic analyses to investigate primate behavior, ecology, and functional morphology. His expertise spans human and nonhuman primate foraging ecology, sensory ecology and evolution, and tropical plant-animal interactions, aiming to elucidate adaptive shifts during primate evolution.
Recent publications (2025) demonstrate his interdisciplinary approach, covering topics from fermented fruits and the origins of feasting to behavior-driven morphological changes in human evolution, bridging anthropology, ecology, and evolutionary biology.
He teaches core courses in biological anthropology including Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Primate Evolution and Ecology, Hunters and Gatherers, and Human Functional Anatomy.
