Nathaniel Farrell is a Senior Lecturer in the College Writing Program at Washington University in St. Louis, within the College of Arts & Sciences. He has taught college composition at the university since 2011 and coordinates the “Citizen Scientist” theme. His research focuses on environmental ethics, race and gender studies, and theories of American politics, with a creative practice in poetry and collage art.
Farrell holds a PhD in English Literature from Columbia University and has authored two books: Lost Horizon (2019) and Newcomer (2014), both published by Ugly Duckling Press. He teaches courses such as “The Scholar and Social Change” and actively integrates interdisciplinary approaches into his pedagogy.
His professional activities emphasize the intersection of academic writing with civic engagement, environmental justice, and critical race theory. He has no listed scientific awards but maintains an active role in curricular innovation through the College Writing Program.
