Dr. Nathan Young serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Research Engineer at IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering, University of Iowa. He is also the Associate Director of the Iowa Flood Center. His roles include leading floodplain mapping initiatives, watershed modeling, and community-based disaster preparedness efforts.
Education: MS (2000) and PhD (2006) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa.
Research focuses on ecohydraulics, including freshwater mussel habitats in the Upper Mississippi River, nitrogen transport in river backwaters, and salmonid passage dynamics. His work combines field measurements, numerical simulations, and laboratory experiments. He also investigates nutrient reduction benefits of restored oxbows (2015 project).
