Professor Nathan Wilson serves as Director of Higher Degree Research and Honors in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at Western Sydney University. With over 35 years of experience working with people with intellectual disability and their families, he is recognized as an Australian disability nurse leader.
His research focuses on enhancing the health, wellbeing and social participation of people with long-term disabilities, particularly intellectual and developmental disability. Professor Wilson has expertise at the intersection of intellectual disability, social inclusion, nursing workforce development, men's health, and sexual health. His work contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and wellbeing.
Professor Wilson has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 2 books, and multiple book chapters, resulting in 2,637 citations and an h-index of 28. His recent publications focus on person-centered care for people with intellectual disability and autism, nursing practice standards, and disability-inclusive healthcare approaches.

As Director of HDR and Hons, Professor Wilson supervises higher degree research students while leading multiple funded projects focused on capacity building for nurses working with people with intellectual disability. He serves on the Human Research Ethics Committee at Western Sydney University and maintains international research collaborations across eight countries. Professor Wilson is also a Visiting Professor at Riga Stradiņš University in Latvia.
