Nathan M. Castillo is an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois, holding concurrent appointments in the departments of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership; Curriculum and Instruction; and the Center for African Studies. His work focuses on leveraging technology to improve education outcomes in the Global South, particularly in early grade reading, policy impact analysis, and equitable learning ecosystems.
Education: Ph.D. in Human Development (University of Pennsylvania), Ed.M. in International Education Policy (Harvard University), B.S. in Psychology (Colorado State University). Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania (2017–2018) and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Fundação Cesgranrio (2018).
Research Interests: Castillo examines how technology can address global education inequities, including personalized learning systems, policy evaluation, and multilingual literacy programs. His work emphasizes scalable solutions for marginalized communities and evidence-based interventions in low-resource settings.
