Nathan Huneke is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Southampton's Department of Psychiatry. His research focuses on anxiety and affective disorders, neuroimaging of emotional processing, and the mechanisms of placebo/nocebo effects in mental health. He is affiliated with the Institute for Life Sciences and Clinical Neurosciences research groups. His work spans experimental models of anxiety, functional neuroimaging, and clinical trial methodologies.
Dr. Huneke holds a medical degree (MBChB), an MRes, and is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). He has received notable awards, including the BAP Junior Clinical Psychopharmacology Award (2020) and the Vize Chancellor Award for Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise (2024). His teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses on neuroscience and psychiatry.
Key projects include investigating DaridoRexant in anxiety models and exploring placebo anxiolysis mechanisms through MRC funding. His research bridges clinical practice and translational science, emphasizing digital health tools like videoconferencing-based anxiety assessments.
