Nathan Hoks is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Writing Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He holds a BA from Loyola University Chicago (2000), an MFA from the University of Iowa (2003), and an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2005). His teaching emphasizes collaborative and experimental writing practices, as evidenced by courses such as 'Gen Sem: Waste, Surplus, Reuse,' 'Wksp: Chainlinks: Collaboration,' and 'Workshop: Intertext.'

Hoks' research and creative work focuses on decentering the artist's role through automatic writing, collage, and procedural techniques. As a letterpress printer and founder of Convulsive Editions, he explores materiality in handmade chapbook publishing.
