Nathan H. Lents

Nathan H. Lents is a Professor of Biology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He holds a B.S. in Biology (1999) and Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Physiology (2004) from Saint Louis University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Genomics at NYU (2006). His research focuses on human genome evolution, particularly human-specific genes and microRNA evolution in Neanderthals/Denisovans. He also explores forensic biology and science communication.

Lents has authored two books: *Human Errors: A Panorama of Our Defects* (2018) and *Not So Different: Finding Human Nature in Animals* (2016). He teaches courses ranging from introductory biology to forensic DNA analysis and serves as Director of the Cell and Molecular Biology program. He has held leadership roles, including former Director of the Honors Program and Deputy Chair of the Sciences Department.

His awards include the 2018 Outstanding Scholarly Mentoring Award and 2011 Research Excellence Award from John Jay College. He also hosts the podcast *This World of Humans*, focusing on life and social sciences research.
