Nathan Gorelick is an Assistant Professor in the English Department and First-Year Experience program at Barnard College, specializing in British/Continental literature, Enlightenment philosophy, and psychoanalysis. Previously an Associate Professor at Utah Valley University, he directed their London Study Abroad Program and received awards including the Dean’s Scholarship Award.
His research investigates intersections of literature, psychoanalysis, and ideology critique. Major works include The Unwritten Enlightenment (2024) on literary resistance to Enlightenment ideologies, and ongoing projects on colonial ruination and psychedelic-Freudian relations. Gorelick has published extensively on ecological psychology, Islamophobia, and revolutionary politics.
His articles span literary theory, colonial critique, and psychoanalysis, frequently examining unconscious structures in political and historical contexts. Recent works analyze psychedelic neoliberalism (2022), end-of-world psychoanalysis (2021), and Arab Spring revolutions (2019).
Awards include multiple Engaged Learning grants. Gorelick trained in Lacanian psychoanalysis at Gifric (Quebec) and is a Candidate at Pulsion Institute. He serves on the MLA Executive Council for Psychology and Literature.
