Dr. Nathalie Herren is a Scientific Collaborator at the Institute of Political Science, University of Bern, as of January 2024. Previously, she served as an Assistant and PhD Candidate (2021–2023) under Prof. Markus Freitag, and as a Research Assistant (2017–2020). Her academic background includes a PhD in Political Science (2021–2023), an M.A. in Comparative and Swiss Politics (2019–2020), and a B.A. in Social Sciences (2013–2018).
Her research focuses on the psychological and social implications of the Covid-19 pandemic, political psychology (personality, emotions, national identity), political sociology (political attitudes, social capital, volunteering), and survey methodology. Her work explores how personality traits influence populist attitudes, pandemic responses, and national identity. Recent publications analyze dark personality traits, pandemic-related emotional reactions, and the interplay between public health crises and political behavior.
Teaching includes seminars on political psychology in German, emphasizing foundational concepts and contemporary debates. Her contributions to academic discourse include entries in the Elgar Encyclopedia of Political Sociology and peer-reviewed journals like Electoral Studies and Nations and Nationalism.
