Dr. Natascha Mueller-Hirth is an Associate Professor, Head of Sociology, and Associate Dean for Economic, Social and Cultural Development at Robert Gordon University's School of Law and Social Sciences. Her research employs qualitative methods to explore violence, gender, transitional justice, and resilience in contexts like Kenyan informal settlements and rural Scotland. She champions community co-creation in research, evidenced by documentaries and policy toolkits.
Her key research interests include:
- Gender-based violence and policing in remote communities
- Peacebuilding and political conflict in post-election Kenya
- Sociology of time and temporal marginalization
- Community responses to interlocking crises (e.g., COVID-19, climate change)
She has received significant recognition, including a 2023 Impact Award for improving partnerships between police and GBV services in Scotland. Current projects focus on resilience in Nairobi's informal settlements (2024–2025).
