Professor Geetanjali Gangoli is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology at Durham University, where she serves as Head of Department. Her work focuses on gender-based violence (GBV) through an intersectional lens, examining how class, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and disability shape GBV experiences and responses in India and the UK.
Her research spans sociology, feminist theory, legal studies, and social work, with theoretical contributions on intersectional inequalities, honor-based violence policy, and Indian feminist frameworks. She has collaborated on EU-Daphne and IAS-funded projects on refugee communities and sexual violence, influencing UK immigration law and policing practices. As a co-founder of the International Journal for Gender Based Violence, she bridges academic and policy domains.
Recent publications analyze GBV in universities, #MeToo in India, and systemic barriers for marginalized survivors. Her 2020–2025 work emphasizes justice frameworks, prevention strategies, and institutional accountability. She actively engages with practitioner networks and policy communities in the UK and India.
