Dr. Natalie Houser is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Kinesiology. Her research focuses on child and youth health development, emphasizing physical literacy across the lifespan through community-engaged approaches. She holds a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Saskatchewan, an MSc from Dalhousie University, and a BSc from St. Francis Xavier University.
Her work prioritizes inclusive movement experiences, leveraging Indigenous methodologies and creative pedagogies like circus arts and nature-based play. Key research themes include physical literacy in early childhood, neurodiversity-inclusive programs, and pandemic impacts on physical activity. She collaborates with community partners to design interventions such as the Fit 4 Tots program and the PLEY (Physical Literacy in the Early Years) project.
Dr. Houser’s publications emphasize qualitative and participatory methods, with a focus on translating research into actionable strategies for educators and policymakers. She actively mentors graduate students interested in child/youth health, physical literacy, and community-based interventions.
