Natalie Diaz is a Professor of English at Arizona State University (ASU), holding the Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Chair in Modern and Contemporary Poetry. She serves as Founding Director of the Center for Imagination in the Borderlands and is a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. A member of the Mojave and Gila River Indian Tribe, Diaz is renowned for her Pulitzer Prize-winning poetry collection Postcolonial Love Poem and her debut work When My Brother Was an Aztec.
Her research interests center on Indigenous languages and cultures, creative writing, and borderland studies. Diaz has held prestigious fellowships including the MacArthur 'Genius' Grant, Lannan Literary Fellowship, and Princeton Hodder Fellowship. She also advises the United States Artists as a Trustee and Board member.
Notable recognitions include finalist placements for the National Book Award, Forward Prize, and Neustadt International Prize for Literature. Diaz leads initiatives documenting Native languages and serves as a Mellon Foundation Research Residency Fellow.
