Natalie Borg is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology within Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. She obtained her Ph.D. in 2003 from the University of Melbourne (Department of Microbiology and Immunology) and has been a laboratory head at Monash since 2006. Her work focuses on antiviral immunity, ubiquitination, and host-pathogen interactions.
- Education:
- Ph.D., Microbiology and Immunology, University of Melbourne (2003)
Her research spans RNA helicases (e.g., DDX3X), structural biology of viral proteins, and ubiquitination in immune signaling. She has led projects on Hendra virus inhibitors and antimalarial drug targets, with recent studies on broad-spectrum antivirals and HIV replication mechanisms.
Her scientific publications (48 outputs) include high-impact reviews on NLRP3 inflammasome modulation and original research on RNA helicase inhibitors (e.g., Trends in Microbiology 2023, Frontiers in Immunology 2022). She has received 15 awards, including the ARC Future Fellowship (2012) and L'Oreal Women in Science Fellowship (2018).
- Scientific Awards:
- NHMRC Peter Doherty Fellowship
- NHMRC Career Development Award
- L'Oreal for Women in Science Fellowship
- ARC Future Fellowship
- Aegean Conferences Travel Award
- Applied Biosystems Edman Award
- BDI Industry Engagement Funding
Borg accepts Ph.D. students and has served as a keynote speaker at the Melbourne Protein Group Student Symposium (2017). She contributes to peer review for journals like Wellcome Trust and Health Research Council of New Zealand.
