Dr Natalia Cintra is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Southampton's Politics and International Relations Department. She holds a PhD in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and previously contributed to the ESRC-funded ReGHID project studying displaced women's healthcare access. Her research focuses on the racial and gendered dimensions of forced migration in Latin America, particularly examining colonial legacies influencing migratory policies in Brazil, Mexico, and Chile. She co-leads the ESRC-funded 'Mapping the Humanitarian Visa Policy in Brazil' project.
Education: PhD in Law (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro). Research interests include race-migration nexus, humanitarianism, and gendered displacement governance. Recent projects analyze Haitian and Sub-Saharan migrants' experiences, South-South migration corridors, and the erosion of rights for Venezuelan displaced women in Brazil.
Publications span migration studies, ethnic/racial politics, and gendered protection ethics. Notable works include analyses of visa policies' racial impacts and visual narratives of Venezuelan migrant women's care needs. Awards include the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship.
