Natalia Aleksiun, the Harry Rich Professor of Holocaust Studies at the University of Florida, is a leading scholar in East European Jewish history and Holocaust studies. She holds a cross-appointment at the University of Florida’s Department of History.
- Education: Doctoral degrees from Warsaw University and New York University.
Her research focuses on the Holocaust, Polish-Jewish relations, Jewish intelligentsia in East Central Europe, and modern Jewish historiography. She has authored and edited seminal works on these topics, including studies on gender, social history, and religious dynamics.
Recent publications include the 2021 edited volume European Holocaust Studies and the 2021 book Conscious History, which examine spatial, intellectual, and cultural dimensions of Jewish history. Her work bridges broad historiographical trends with specific subfields like Zionist movements and post-war Jewish reconstruction.
A co-editor of East European Jewish Affairs, Aleksiun is currently researching Jews in hiding in western Ukraine during the Holocaust. Her contributions span academic writing, archival preservation, and interdisciplinary analysis.
