Natacha Duroisin is a Lecturer at the Teacher Training School of the University of Mons (UMONS) with significant research responsibilities. She serves as the scientific coordinator for UMONS of two major research projects within the Pact for Excellence in Teaching: 'Differentiation and Personalized Support' and the 'Mathematics-Sciences-Geography Consortium.'
Her academic journey includes a Doctorate in Psychological Sciences and Education, a Master's degree in Educational Sciences, and a Bachelor's degree in Human Sciences. She defended her doctoral thesis titled 'What place for spatial learning at school? Experimental study of the development of spatial skills of students aged 6 to 15 years old' on April 28, 2015 at the University of Mons.
Duroisin's research focuses on understanding cognitive functioning of learners, particularly in mathematics, geography, and science education. Her work spans spatial learning, educational technology, and the integration of virtual reality in educational settings. She has conducted extensive research on spatial skills development in students aged 6-15 years, with specific emphasis on mathematics education and geometry.
Her research methodology has evolved to incorporate advanced technologies, including virtual reality coupled with eye tracking devices since 2011. She has led studies on facilitating the primary-secondary transition in geometry, developing abstraction processes in students, and evaluating spatial representations of architecture students using virtual environments.
- FRS-FNRS Fellow (2011)
Duroisin actively supervises TFE/Dissertations and interns at UMONS while managing significant research projects. She collaborates extensively with educational institutions, from kindergartens to secondary schools, and with specialized laboratories including PSITEC at the University of Lille 3 and the Spatial Orientation laboratory at the University of Geneva.
Her professional engagement extends beyond UMONS through leadership roles in educational organizations including FEGEPRO (as Vice-President) and ADMEE-Europe (as Belgian National Delegate and newsletter editor), demonstrating her commitment to advancing educational practices and research in French-speaking Belgium.
