Nasrin Qader is an Associate Professor of French and Comparative Literary Studies at Northwestern University, with a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in French and is affiliated with the Program in Comparative Literary Studies, African Studies Program, and the Middle East and North African Studies Program (MENA).

Her research bridges Francophone African literature, Arabic literature of the Maghreb, Islamic mysticism, and contemporary literary theory. She has been awarded a prestigious New Directions Fellowship by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (2009-2010) to expand her training into Indian religious and literary traditions, and she participated in the Institute for World Literature at Harvard University and Bilgi University in 2012.
Qader’s publications include the book Narratives of Catastrophe: Boris Diop, ben Jelloun, Khatibi (2009), which examines the relationship between narration and catastrophe. Her current research explores the interplay of chance and literary worlding in Francophone African writing, with a forthcoming book project, and a series of articles on the aesthetics and politics of disappearance in visual and literary works.
