Nashra Ahmad is a Foundation Fellow and Postgraduate Fellow at Durham University, pursuing a PhD in Music Cognition and Psychology. She holds a Master's in Cognitive Science from IIT Gandhinagar (2021) and a BA in Psychology (First Class Honours) from Aligarh Muslim University (2018). Her research focuses on rhythm perception, particularly North Indian classical rhythms, and explores entrainment mechanisms, sensorimotor synchronisation, and consonance/dissonance perception. She is affiliated with the Music and Science Lab and serves as an editorial assistant for DURMS.
She teaches Psychology at the Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) and previously taught music theory in India. Awards include the Durham Doctoral Studentship (2022) and Sabarmati Bridge Fellowship (2021). Notable publications include work on EEG responses to music, cultural familiarity in rhythm perception, and resonance in AI design. Her interdisciplinary research bridges music, neuroscience, and robotics, with a focus on rhythmic learning and human-AI interaction.
