معرفی
Naomi Tanabe is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Bowdoin College, currently on leave for the 2025–2026 academic year. She has been affiliated with Bowdoin since 2017, initially as an Assistant Professor before her promotion to Associate Professor in July 2024. Her academic career also includes positions as an Instructor at Dartmouth College (2015–2017) and a Coleman Postdoctoral Fellow at Queen's University (2012–2015).
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University (Advisor: A. Raghuram)
- MS in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University (Advisor: Alan Adolphson)
- BS in Mathematics from Rikkyo University, Tokyo, Japan (Advisor: Tsuneo Arakawa)
Dr. Tanabe's research centers on deep connections between Number Theory and Representation Theory, with specialized expertise in Automorphic Forms and Special values of L-functions. Her work explores analytic properties of Hilbert modular forms, Rankin-Selberg convolutions, and the behavior of Fourier coefficients. She investigates critical phenomena such as non-vanishing of L-function derivatives, sign equidistribution, and uniqueness theorems for automorphic representations, employing sophisticated techniques from analytic number theory and harmonic analysis.
Analysis of her publication timeline reveals sustained focus on the analytic theory of automorphic L-functions, particularly through Hilbert modular forms. Her work demonstrates methodological consistency in addressing central problems: establishing non-vanishing results for critical values, characterizing sign distributions of Fourier coefficients, and developing uniqueness criteria through central values across weight and level aspects. Recent publications extend these investigations to divisor-bounded multiplicative functions and Fourier coefficient summation.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- AMS-Simons Research Enhancement Grant for PUI Faculty (2023–2026)
- AMS-Simons Travel Grant Award (2016–2018)
Dr. Tanabe maintains an extensive teaching portfolio across institutions, having instructed 30+ undergraduate mathematics courses ranging from foundational calculus to advanced topics in complex analysis, ring theory, and number theory. Her professional engagement includes 25+ invited talks at major conferences including AMS Special Sessions, Quebec/Maine Number Theory Conferences, and international workshops in Japan and Nepal, reflecting active participation in the global number theory community.
