Naomi M. Simon, MD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, serving as Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Engagement and Director of the Anxiety, Stress, and Prolonged Grief Program at NYU Langone. With over 25 years of clinical and translational research experience, her work focuses on anxiety disorders, PTSD, and prolonged grief, supported by NIH, PCORI, and DoD grants. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and authored influential textbooks, including the APA Textbook of Anxiety, Trauma, and OCD-Related Disorders. Her leadership roles include membership in the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Simon is committed to mentorship, having received awards for exceptional mentorship of women faculty and junior researchers.
Education: MD from Harvard University (1992), Psychiatry Residency at Columbia University (1996).
Research interests span the biological and psychological underpinnings of stress, trauma, and loss, with an emphasis on developing evidence-based treatments. Recent work explores integrative health approaches, such as mindfulness and exercise, for anxiety management. Clinical trials include studies on cannabidiol for social anxiety and sex differences in mindfulness responses.
