- Education: BA (McGill), MA (UBC), PhD (UCL/IOE)
Research interests include picture book theory, transmedia storytelling, and the intersection of cultural theory with childhood studies. Her work interrogates how media shapes discourses around identity, nationalism, and social equity. Current projects emphasize participatory museum practices where youth act as co-curators. She has co-edited major works on picture books and fairy-tale media, and her research bridges literary studies with visual and digital cultures.
- Awards: Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2020)
As Practicum Director for MA LitMod and former President of the Association for Research in Cultures of Young People, Hamer champions experiential learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her SSHRC-funded projects (curatingstory.com and York Scalar site) explore how museums mediate childhood narratives through participatory exhibits.
