Professor John Potter holds the position of Professor of Media in Education at the IOE, University College London, within the Culture, Communication and Media department. He directs the ReMAP research centre and serves as Associate Director (Media) of the UCL Knowledge Lab. His research focuses on media education, new literacies, play (both on and offline), digital media's impact on teaching/learning, and participatory research methodologies. Notable projects include the ESRC-funded Play Observatory (tracking children's play during the pandemic) and the EPSRC-funded Playing the Archive (exploring children's games through historical archives).
He has collaborated with institutions like the British Film Institute and Young Victoria and Albert Museum, and holds roles such as Trustee at the latter. Awards include Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Potter has served in education sectors across schools, local authorities, and universities, including prior roles at the University of East London and Goldsmiths College.
