Naomi Geyer is an Associate Professor of Japanese Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in the Japanese Linguistics Program. She holds an Ed.D. in Applied Linguistics from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research focuses on pragmatics in Japanese, discursive approaches to politeness, learner language development, classroom discourse, and language teacher education. She joined UW-Madison in 2002 after teaching Japanese language courses at Columbia University, where she continues to co-teach an Elementary Japanese Pedagogy course in their summer program.
Her work bridges language teaching practice and research, emphasizing insights into language use and acquisition. She supervises Japanese language courses and engages in teacher education initiatives. Offices are located at 1260 Van Hise Hall, with hours on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00-11:00.
