Naomi Ellemers is a distinguished social and organizational psychologist serving as University Professor at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social Sciences since 2015. She previously held professorships at Leiden University (1999-2015) and the Free University Amsterdam (1991-1999). Ellemers is internationally recognized for her research on diversity and inclusion, integrity and ethical behavior in organizations, and social safety in academic and professional settings.
Her research interests focus on how people live and work together in groups, examining how behavior is influenced by social contexts. She specializes in two main areas: diversity & inclusion and integrity & ethical behavior. From these perspectives, she studies diversity and innovation in teams, career development of women and ethnic minorities, motivation in work teams, and ethical norms in professional groups. Her work emphasizes practical applications including organizational culture oversight, implicit bias in recruitment, and corporate social responsibility.
Ellemers' recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on organizational behavior, ethical leadership, and social safety, with particular attention to practical implementation of diversity initiatives, leadership accountability, and creating psychologically safe work environments. Her research shows strong continuity in examining how social contexts shape individual behavior and organizational culture.

Ellemers has led significant advisory work including chairing the KNAW committee on social safety in academia and serving on the Van Rijn Committee investigating behavior within Dutch Public Broadcasting. She is one of the initiators of the Netherlands Inclusivity Monitor (NIM) and Athena's Angels. Her research group develops measurement instruments and interventions for practice, bridging academic research with real-world organizational challenges. She regularly contributes expert commentary to the Financial Daily (FD) and serves as a Crown-appointed member of the Social and Economic Council (SER).
