Nannan Liu is an Endowed Professor in the Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology at Auburn University's College of Agriculture. Her research focuses on insect physiology, toxicology, and molecular biology, with emphasis on pesticide resistance mechanisms, genomic studies in insects, and advanced sensor technologies. She has authored a seminal book, Recent Advances in Insect Physiology, Toxicology and Molecular Biology, and pioneered work on CRISPR-based gene editing, nanoscale biosensors, and entomological genomics.
Her interdisciplinary work spans from understanding insecticide resistance in mosquitoes and house flies to developing cutting-edge tools for detecting cancer biomarkers and environmental toxins. Liu's lab integrates molecular biology, materials science, and engineering principles to address global challenges in agriculture, public health, and biomedical diagnostics.
Recent research highlights include:
- CRISPR multigene editing strategies for glioblastoma treatment
- Development of dual-functionalized glass micropipette sensors for simultaneous ion detection
- Genomic profiling of P450 genes in fire ants
- Optical fiber innovations for quantum information distribution
Liu's contributions bridge fundamental entomological research with applied technologies through collaborative projects in Auburn's College of Agriculture and affiliated research units.
