Nandini Deo is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Lehigh University's College of Arts and Sciences. She spent the 2023-2024 academic year as a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar at SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai, India, where she researched corporate social responsibility and civil society dynamics. Her work spans civil society organizations, religion and secularism, gender, and childhood, with a regional focus on South Asian politics.

Deo's research prioritizes qualitative methods like participant observation and interviews, emphasizing power structures and grassroots activism. Her recent projects explore technological/social impacts on childhood and the global spread of unschooling as a democratic utopia. She has authored/edited four books, including Mobilizing Religion and Gender in India (Routledge, 2016) and the forthcoming Corporate Social Responsibility and Civil Society (Anthem, 2024).
Her peer-reviewed articles analyze civil society autonomy (World Development, 2020) and postsecular intersections in Indian politics (Asian Journal of Comparative Politics, 2020). She currently serves as Treasurer for the Religion and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association (APSA) and has previously contributed to APSA's Gender and Politics Section executive board and book/dissertation award committees.

Deo's teaching philosophy embraces active learning and "ungrading" methods, co-producing courses with students. She facilitates Philadelphia's Democracy Days program at Awbury Arboretum and teaches courses like Are Children People? and Religion and Politics in Comparative Perspective.
