Nandini Bhattacharya is Professor of South Asian History and History of Medicine in the Department of History at the University of Houston's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, she holds a PhD from University College London and undergraduate degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
Her research focuses on:
- Colonial science and medicine in modern India
- Urban history and colonial enclaves
- Histories of consumption and medical consumerism
- Social history of alcohol in colonial contexts
- Comparative histories of migrant labor in the Global South
Major funded research includes awards from Wellcome Trust, Carnegie Trust, Leverhulme Trust, and Science History Institute. Publications demonstrate consistent focus on pharmaceutical history, colonial medical policies, and socioeconomic transformations in South Asia over 150 years.
