Professor Nandini Das holds dual roles as Professor of Early Modern Literature and Culture at the University of Oxford and Tutorial Fellow at Exeter College. Her work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary research on cross-cultural encounters, identity formation, and digital humanities. She leads major research initiatives including the ERC-funded TIDE and TRACTION projects, which explore mobility, race, and English global engagement. Her award-winning book Courting India (2023) redefines early modern imperial history.
Her research spans chivalric romance, travel writing, and the intersection of European and South Asian cultural exchanges. She pioneered digital humanities applications in literary studies, including network analysis of early modern texts and teacher training platforms. Funded by the AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, and European Research Council, her work has produced edited volumes like The Cambridge History of Travel Writing and the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Travel, Race and Identity.
