Nancy Ringel, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine and Affiliated Faculty at the Yale Institute for Global Health. She specializes in urogynecology and female pelvic reconstructive surgery. Dr. Ringel holds dual board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Urogynecology from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Education: BA in Biology with Neuroscience specialization from Boston University (2007), MD from Harvard Medical School (2014), residency at NYU/Bellevue Hospital (2018), and a Urogynecology fellowship at Georgetown University/MedStar Health (2021), where she earned a Master’s in Clinical and Translational Research with a focus on Health Disparities and Community Engagement.
Research: Focuses on surgical outcomes, health disparities in gynecologic care, and global women’s health. Her work addresses barriers to equitable care for pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and reconstructive surgery. Recent projects include studies on obesity’s impact on surgical outcomes, telemedicine in preoperative care, and systemic inequities in hysterectomy practices.
Awards: Recognized with the Gynecologic Surgery Teaching Award (2024), OHER Award for Yale Research Excellence (2021), and multiple teaching awards from NYU (2018).
Leadership: Founder and Lead of the Global Women’s Health Faculty Network at Yale Institute for Global Health. Active in professional societies including the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) and Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS). Leads initiatives in global surgery, health equity, and reducing workplace harassment in medicine.
Clinical Expertise: Vaginal, robotic, and laparoscopic surgeries for pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, and fistula repair. Prioritizes patient-centered care, emphasizing informed decision-making and addressing stigmatized conditions with empathy.
